Elevation of the Cross - Lecture and Workshop

"The Meaning of the Cross as depicted in Orthodox Iconography"

Vladislav Andrejev, prominent iconographer and founder of the Prosopon School, lecturer.

Open to all Chapel members, friends and interested guests.

A workshop will also be held this same weekend.  Details follow.

Iconography Workshop: The Cross

In conjunction with the holiday “Elevation of the Cross” and Andrejev’s lecture, a special workshop will be held offering a unique opportunity to decorate a wooden cross. Participating Chapel members, who already have a cross from the Chapel's original altar, should give the cross by mid-July to Lydia in order that it be gessoed prior to the workshop.  For other participants, wooden crosses will be provided at the workshop.

The workshop will entail gilding, painting one typical iconographic image of the Trinity, the letters IC XC and NIKA and, possibly, some mountains wand Hades with the skull depending upon participant's inclination and courage. 

Time frame: September 12 (1 hour) and September 13 (3 hours to complete project)  Hours can be flexible as per an individual's schedule.

Cost: $50  (We will post shortly to whom payment is due.)
